Is this really freedom?

The Malaysian Insider reported that Hindraf legal adviser V. Ganabatirao, who was just released from ISA detention, has been prohibited from speaking to the media for one year.

The imposition of this condition upon him marks a violation of his right as a citizen in a democracy to speak in public, particularly via the media.

It is already bad enough that Ganabatirao, like other ISA detainees, has yet to be ‘freed’ from the suspicion associated with the charge levelled against him pertaining to his ISA detention.

Given that he will not be judged in a court of law, one will never know the truth of the allegation made against him; an albatross around his neck for the rest of his life. A gross injustice indeed.

Ganabatirao free to walk, not to talk

SHAH ALAM, April 5 — Hindraf legal adviser V. Ganabatirao is a free man today but he cannot speak to the media for a year as one condition of his release.

His brother Papparaidu said this was among the conditions imposed by the government upon Ganabatirao’s release from the Internal Security Act (ISA)

“This is what my elder brother said but he did not mention other conditions,” he told reporters after welcoming Ganabatirao back to their house in Jalan Kemuning near here.

Ganabatirao had been detained at the Kamunting detention centre under the ISA since Dec 31, 2007 for leading the largest Indian uprising in the country that led to the Barisan Nasional’s worst performance in election last year.

He and 12 other detainees were freed by Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in his maiden speech as the sixth prime minister over television on Friday.

NAJIB, WHY BOTHER RELEASING DETAINEES IF CONDITIONS ARE APPLIED.

    THIS IS NOT CALLED FREEDOM.

THIS IS NOT THE WISH OF THE RAKYAT, TO FREE DETAINEES WITHOUT ANY RESTRICTIONS IMPOSED ON HIS SPEECH AND not with restrictions.

VOTE FOR PKR IN ALL THE 3 BY-ELECTIONS AND no no to BN culprits.

If releasing the 13 ISA detainess is not a publicity stunt for Najib, then what is?

Why set conditions when you want to set someone free from detention??

It’s because najib does not not want the two Hindraf detainees to campaing for PR for the three by elections.

What is umno/bn so afraid of??? Are they just being paranoid!!!

    Terima Kasih.
