Home Ministry seizes Suara Keadilan

According to Malaysiakini, the Home Ministry has seized nearly 20,000 copies of the Feb 4-11 edition of Suara Keadilan that carried a screaming headline, ‘Perak cabar SPR ke mahkamah‘ (Perak challenges EC to court).

pkr suara keadilan confiscate by internal ministry 110209 02

Party information chief Tian Chua (right – photo credit: Malaysiakini) suspects that the PKR organ’s coverage of the recent Perak ‘political turmoil’ was the reason for the confiscation.

No official reason, says Chua, has been given so far for the sudden confiscation.

Malaysiakini also reported that copies of Pas’ Harakah also faced the same ‘fate’ after reporting on the Perak political situation.

Such confiscation is indeed troubling as this is tantamount to further curbing the country’s press freedom.

Furthermore, it can also be seen as an assault on the democratic right of the Malaysian citizenry to have access to information and views contained in the organs of legitimate political parties in Malaysia.

This is getting tiresome and very irkesome too, isn’t it?

When is someone going to have the guts to take a spanner into the Home Ministry ‘s engine – perhaps in the manner of a diagnostic-operation akin to what the Perak Sultan may have likely done for the constitutional system’s machinery, and give its workings a good, detailed health-check, so that some serious and informed debate or some clarification and change from judicial review can take place to hopefully, clear up some of the meaningless and pointless, if not clearly ma or dysfunctional policies, procedures and decision-making that now seem to be apparent no matter where you look?

Suggest someone does that soon before that ship of state sinks midstream from total systems failure in rough seas or by hitting that unseen iceberg like the apparently unsinkable Titanic.

Or am I being paranoid/neurotic/schizoid or OTT here? Or even committing that nefarious, treasonous deed called derhaka? Sedition Act or the ISA anybody at that Home Ministry?
