Datuk Shah Rukh Khan

Bernama reported that Bollywood leading actor Shah Rukh Khan will receive a datukship from the Melaka Yang Dipertua Negeri, in conjunction with his 70th birthday on Saturday.

There are many things in our society, especially of late, that befuddle me, but this datuk conferment on a Bollywood actor, in my humble opinion, takes the cake.

I am still grappling with the notion of a foreign actor and national being considered for an award. And I do realise that to question such a conferment may incur the wrath of Mr Khan’s fan base in Malaysia, particularly the powers-that-be in Melaka.

That notwithstanding, I wonder whether it could be that Shah Rukh Khan has become such a towering figure to our local ruling politicians because he has provided, to use today’s popular parlance, the benchmark for ‘very good acting’, let alone dancing to the tune of the day.

    Malunya saya sebagai rakyat Melaka..
Ramai orang berkelayakan pun tak dapat title tu..

  2. 2 Eagle 11 October 2008 at 5:07 pm

We requre DNA test for this S Rukh Khan, you know who can do it in Malaysia with a very conclusive result that can’t be challenged.
Keturunan Tun Teja ke Hang Jebat? Hang Tuah tak mungkin sebab dia pahlawan angguk, tapi Hang Jebat tu boleh jadi sebab dia tu boleh tahan.
    Shame on you anak Melaka.

i am not a big fan of shah rukh khan nor do i have anything against him…but doesnt it seem ridiculous? what has he contributed to malaysia or malacca? I am still bitter of the fact that some people get recognised for meagre or no achievement…does anyone know what happen to the guy who climbed mount everest? what did they get for their sacrifice to put the country on top of the world…owh wait, maybe because they were not ‘true Malaysians’? (challenge your mind)

  4. 4 zaharibb 11 October 2008 at 5:14 pm

How low thinking this can be.

  9. 10 jambu 11 October 2008 at 6:32 pm

  10. 11 Sassui Kazi 11 October 2008 at 6:36 pm

You have to be more generous than the emails appear to be. The Malaysian govt is obviously thinking beyond narrow confines to what gives pleasure to the people of Malaysia and of excellence itself. SRK is a very good friend of Malaysia and also brings good business there by doing his films in Malaysia. His Don gave the ordinary people of many countries a look at wonderful progress made by Malaysia. So whats the anger?
SRK is a huge personality recognized on the world stage- The British recognize foreigners who are achievers and distinguished so why not Datuk King Khan?

  11. 12 Jeevey 11 October 2008 at 7:03 pm

far out! so many people in this country deserve that award than someone whose only connections to malaysia are his fans.(i happen to be a fan)

grow up for heaven sakes! if he had to choose between india and malaysia dude will choose india. stop being an idiot!

  12. 13 basly 11 October 2008 at 7:10 pm

  13. 14 robin hood 11 October 2008 at 8:20 pm

  14. 15 siva 11 October 2008 at 8:38 pm

well a nut case is this,

Hope this circus doesn’t Stop with Shah Rukh khan,
next make Amitabh Bachan a Tan Sri ,
    Dharmendra a Tun ,
    Kamalhassan a Datuk Seri,

we are a laughing stock of bollywood and remember Malaysia semua boleh.

    it’s idiotic!!!!!!!!!!!! hahahahaa

  16. 17 ctempoyak 11 October 2008 at 9:09 pm

Fikir panjangle sikit!

  17. 18 rider 11 October 2008 at 9:19 pm

Maybe the powers that be did a high profile dna research at the expense of taxpayer’s money and found that SHAHrukh inherited the genes from Iskandar SHAH of Melaka? But if Sassui Kazi is right then the remake of ‘Don’ in tamil, also shot in Malaysia, then Ajit Kumar should also get a ‘Datuk’ for his ‘Billa’.

  18. 19 reshmann 11 October 2008 at 10:00 pm

    Sassui Kazi,

Going by your argument, then the tamil movie heroes from south india should deserve the datukship more than SRK. Do you know there are more tamil movies shot in malaysia in all the major locations in malaysia. Previously they used to go to singapore and thailand but malaysia is their main location now. Remember tamil movies from india also have a global audience.

The point is, if the govt wants to show their gratitude to those actors, they can do so by other means like cutting red tapes, giving hotel concessions and so forth, not datukship. Datukship should be only conferred on those outstanding persons who have contributed to the nation in a positive way. I would go one step further and say that on the contrary SRK and the likes had in fact had negative impact on the local girls esp the malay girls which led them to be associated with bangla workers due to their somewhat bollywood actors like features and find themselves to be cheated by these guys.
True, courageous Malaysians like the Everest climbers were ignored but a foreigner who swings around from tree to tree is conferred such an honorouble title. What is becoming of our nation lar?

  20. 21 jana 11 October 2008 at 10:30 pm

Ali … might have found that Shah Rukh Khan has links to Hang Tuah ancestors

  21. 22 Johnny Cheah 11 October 2008 at 10:47 pm

so is he attending the award ceremony in malacca. who pays for his first class airfare to malaysia. the malacca state government. anyway, you think he will come

  22. 23 The Penquin 11 October 2008 at 10:48 pm

Ha Ha HA…something like Sir Elton John…but at least he is British !

  23. 24 afz 11 October 2008 at 10:51 pm

i’ld consider myself as a big fan of Shah rukh. But i think this is absolutely ridiculous. Malaysia’s hardly significnat to this fella , and here he is, conferred M’sia’s 3rd top award? is m’sia really out of worthy malaysians (or at least residents in malaysia)?
i think this seriously devalues the DAtuk title.

  24. 25 True-Leaders.com 11 October 2008 at 10:54 pm

My guess is that these people think that conferring a Datukship to this popular Hindi actor will bring the Indians back to supporting BN.
what they don’t realize is that they have become the laughing stock of not only the Indians but the Malays, Chinese & others as well.

  25. 26 tun jeram 11 October 2008 at 11:56 pm

Apabila Mohd.

  26. 27 candles 12 October 2008 at 12:04 am

Seriously, what has Todt and Shah Rukh Khan done for Malaysia that they deserved datukship? These people don’t even pay taxes in Malaysia.

  27. 28 fomca 12 October 2008 at 12:42 am

Soon we will have Datuk Seri Jackie Chan. And then Tan Sri Harrison Ford.

Anna and The King was shot in Perak in the late 1990s.

Did Chow Yuen Fat and Jodie Foster receive a datukship? NO.

Is it because the then Perak govt is not as clever (or is it ‘funny’ or is it s****d?) as the current Malacca govt?

aku bengang! dah 3 hari aku duk memaki hamun si ali …tu! aku malu jadi org melaka! aku malu!!!

  35. 37 Faizal Riduan 13 October 2008 at 6:10 pm

  36. 38 silent00hunter 13 October 2008 at 8:32 pm

maybe lepas ni ada pulak datuk shawn connery & datuk zeta jones…
bukan ke diorang 2 org ni bergayut kat twin tower dulu???

hhmmmmmmph…..pening kepala otak aku yg bijak nih….

  37. 39 harry 13 October 2008 at 10:29 pm

memang aku pun tak puas hati..bengang. walau pun aku bukan org melaka, aku rasa marah betul dgn si ali tu, ada ke patut org mcm SRK tu d bagi pangkat DATUK? hilang AKAL ape????

  38. 40 green rabbit 13 October 2008 at 11:42 pm

Alasan promosi Melaka tu langsung tak masuk akal. Kalau kena pakai banyak duit untuk promosi melaka, dan tiba2 jer si SRK to promote Melaka kat filem menyebabkan Melaka jadi tarikan,so…Thank You,I guess. Tak payah lah bagi pangkat kat dia. Dia promosi free, terima je lah.

Punya ramai orang berlakon kat luar negara, nak kecoh2 apahal? Kita punya pelakon pernah berlakon kat luar negara, tak heran pun diaorang.

Jericho Rosales pun ada buat penggambaran kat Malaysia dgn Carmen Soo. Lepas cerita tu ditayangkan, kalau ramai org Filipina datang melawat Malaysia, kena bagi dia jugak tu.Carmen sekali memandangkan dia lagilah org Malaysia, kan?

  39. 41 hunter 14 October 2008 at 3:52 am

SRK lewat 2jam masa nak interview dulu.Lewat 3jam masa konsert dulu(sebelum yg dia kansel terus tu) Masa terima anugerah nanti, lewat berapa jam lak?

  40. 42 remy 14 October 2008 at 11:45 am

what a shame!!!! per relevan nyer bg dier datuk?
ramai yg rakyat malaysia yg lbih layak
    m.nasir.eman manan etc
alasan hanya 1 filem yg d shoot d melaka
itupun salah 1 filem pling gagal dlm sejarah filem bollywood ???? what a rubbish

  41. 43 Anak Melaka 14 October 2008 at 2:17 pm

What a crap… wei Shah Rukh Khan dia sendiri tak tau Melaka tu kat mana daaaa…
