A few Malay-Muslim groups are up in arms against those who oppose the ISA, one of the five issues that compelled them to lodge police reports. These are issues they claimed had ‘endangered Muslim and Malay unity’.
They also planned to hold ’several roadshows nationwide, starting in Selangor, to explain the issues that are affecting the Malays and to remind them of the importance of maintaining unity’.
Wait a sec! Did they imply that the so-called ’Muslim and Malay unity’ hinged on detention without trial aka ISA? Associating this kind of unity with a piece of legislation that has long been considered unjust and therefore going against the very teachings of Islam that prioritise justice and compassion, among other important things in life?
One wonders whether the Fatwa Council has an opinion on this matter.
Below is an extract from The Star report today:
KUALA LUMPUR: Representatives from an umbrella body of Malay and Muslim non-governmental organisations lodged five police reports Sunday over several issues which they claimed endangered Muslim and Malay unity.
The Heritage Associations, Malay Cultural Organisations and Related Bodies Cooperation Network (Pewaris) urged the Government to act against groups which are asking for the abolition of the Internal Security Act (ISA).
They also lodged reports against the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf), Gerakan Wanita chief Datuk Tan Lian Hoe and Sisters in Islam, the last for their remarks on the National Fatwa Council’s edict against pengkid or tomboys.

I find these developments very disturbing. Clearly, the ISA is against natural justice, never mind according to what creed.
And the irony is that Pewaris, claiming to champion the cause of Muslims – or at least the Malay ones – actually support detention without trial!
Sigh… Thanks for posting this, by the way. It’s high time to make it clear that folks like these do not speak for the entire Muslim population in this country…
Can the Muslims of the world explain to the people whether detention of any human bieng without trial is promoted by Islam? Is the denial of the right for someone to defend himself in the court of law is the practice in Islam?
when I saw the news, a single woman chased by that many people just because she did a job as a human being, …… I have no words to explain that.
just wondering on how they (Pewaris) can get the permit to bring banners and have a rally and to chase anyone who captures photo or…
Anyway, to the lady who took the picture, sorry I do not know her name, WELL DONE.
Wonder if they need any permit. haha. Sure the police will give them protection.
Yea.. Does it mean that to be a Malay, one needs crutches of NEP and power of ISA? PEWARIS is making a mockery of their own race.
Honestly, these are the very people who are giving Islam a very bad name and at the same time alienating themselves from other religions as well.
Thank you Mus for your unbiased view of the whole issue. Like the others I was shocked and alarmed when I saw the rally given so much airtime on TV. Thanks to the police for saving the lady from those who ran to attack her.
The same day those who opposed ISA were hounded and arrested at another rally. Double standard in action.
I wish Malaysians 1)REMEMBER & 2)ACT on this simple RULE:- Don’t do upon others if you don’t want others to do upon you.
How about using ISA to act against those same pro-ISA people who had endangered multireligious Malaysians and Malaysian unity?
