Living in the holy month of Ramadan

Ramadan, the ninth month of the Muslim year, is a time to fast for the sake of God, and to offer more prayer than usual.

During Ramadan, Muslims seek forgiveness for past sins, pray for guidance into the future and for ways of avoiding daily evils, and also to try to purify themselves through self-restraint.

It is also during this month that Muslims are required to make extra efforts to spread love, peace, harmony and goodwill.

Hence, in the spirit of Ramadan, I pray that Malaysians, irrespective of their ethnic and religious backgrounds, would make an extra effort to work together towards our collective happiness, peace and harmony.

Furthermore, in the spirit of love and peace, I also pray for the early release of ISA detainees Raja Petra Kamarudin and Teresa Kok as well as other detainees in Kamunting.

May God bless us all.

    Dear Brother Mustafa,

I am not a Muslim but will say that I practise most things you said a Muslim should do during Ramadan(and all times).

On a daily basis I spread love, speak of peace , extend goodwill to all mankind and live in harmony with everyone around me.

I believe in god , pray and seek his forgiveness when I might have erred. I avoid daily evils, show self restraint, curb negative emotions and seek the almighty’s guidance in my undertakings.

Despite all this, if I was to be asked if I am a religious person, my honest and quick answer will be NO. I was brought up and conditioned to be like this and this was ingrained in me in my upbringing and it is now my way of life.

I am now bringing my children up the same way.

Now what I don’t understand is – Muslims are a majority in the government and police force and this is the holy month. How could the Muslims in Gomen and Police arrest and hold fellow Malaysians under ISA during this Holy month? Does thier inner spirit/conscience not revolt? Any good man or woman will find this repulsive. I do.

Actually it’s all mind boggling. As Southallman put it across that majority ministers are Muslim and most of the police top bras are Muslim too. But their actions reflect poorly. Even during Ramadhan, these people can do this kind of job, without remorse, then it is no wonder the country is fast going down the drain. I am convinced that something is not right somewhere, there is a need for checks and balances as to prevent abuse of power. Every aspect of the system and the selection of the people holding strategic post need major overhaul. Many laws that are out-dated, draconian and prone to be abused must be repealed. The citizens, the country, organizations and individuals must be protected. People are playing GOD so we the people must put a stop to it.
