‘Wake me up when September ends.’ It seems to me that such a thought might have crossed the minds of certain Malaysians, particularly those who have a peculiar phobia about the month of September.
And after September ends, what would the Malaysian scene be like?
For me, first and foremost on the wish-list is a multi-racial Pakatan Federal government busy cleaning up the stinking mess of the past BN regime.
And busy collecting evidence to build cases against those who pillaged the nation, robbed its coffers, divided the people and tried to corrupt our children with all sorts of racist propaganda.
But I would hope too that not too long after that, there will also arise within the decimated BN component parties, new leaders to rebuild the parties into a credible and honorable Opposition. A functioning check-and-balance system and politicians who truly berjiwa rakyat are vital for the country’s long-term good.
Perhaps the lessons of the BN fall from what was once thought to be its impregnable fortress of power will serve as an indelible reminder to all parties of the corrupting nature of power, especially absolute power (paraphrasing Lord Acton).
It is so sad that the sons of Tun Razak and Tun Hussein Onn are not even a shadow of what their illustrious fathers were. And yet, sandwiched in age between the two is Raja Nazrin, a beacon of noble hope who must already be a source of much pride to his illustrious father.
The trio were all from the same school and likely even had some common teachers. But Raja Nazrin was never active in UMNO. Does that point to anything? Consider too Khairy and his self-admitted “budak nakal” tactics which he claims is what is expected of the UMNO Youth deputy chief.
And the vast difference between Tan Chee Khoon and the present and immediate past leaders of Gerakan. And MCA… MIC…
Perhaps the new leaders will have thought deeply about such questions, and have plans in hand to remove the various cancers, and restore the parties.
And Pakatan Rakyat will also have grown more united, with greater understanding and appreciation of their various strengths and differences. And reaching better agreement on the thorny matters which need to be addressed wisely and fairly.
So I trust that when September ends, the future of Malaysia will be far brighter than the rays of hope shining now promise.
Ya,leithaisor,I agree with you. Those who want to put their heads in and hibernate are welcome to do so.We,the rest of Malaysians can hope and dream for a better future than that we have now.Let september come and go,so what?If we procure a change, well and good,if not we can still hope.HOPE is all about this life.HOPe is about change.HOPE is about survival in this world. All the best to all of us this September.
It is my sincere hope that 916 will become a reality but unfortunately, I do not think it will happen. UMNO/BN is just too strong for anwar to topple it not at least this round. Perhaps in the next GE but highly not possible now.
There is a saying that a bird in the hand is worth two in the bushes. All of the present BN MPs are very well taken care of in one way or another by UMNO. They have been living in this comfort zone for such a long time already that they will resist change unless they are absolutely sure that their positions will not be compromised from that change.
After all, it is a well known fact that it is foolish to assume change from someone who have benefitted from the order system.
